Location of The Old Mill

The Old Mill

For the non-fishing members of your party, or if you just want to take time out away from catching fish, there are plenty of local attractions.

All 3 Lakes are situated close to the historic town of Laval, listed as an 'Art and History' town, Laval has a Middle Ages feel, with a number of Museums, busy boutiques and a variety of restaurants and cafés as well as traditional markets.

The Chàteau at Laval over looks the river Mayenne where you can hire a boat, cast off and take your very own cruise. Guided tours are also available by boat, on foot or by the mini train, all of which are organised by the local Tourist Office.

Other places of interest are the Chàteau at Craon and its gardens, La Roe Abbey or for a slice of culture the Robert Tatin museum at Cossé-le-Vivien.

The beautiful long sandy beach of La Baule is just a 1½ hour drive away and makes a perfect day out.

There are also 2 golf courses both situated within 30 minutes drive.

Firstly, there is the Cesson Sevigne golf course at Vitre. This challenging 9-hole course (par 35, 2946 yards) has many water obstacles, it also has a partly covered practise area, training green and club house.

Secondly, there is the Changé Golf Course at Laval. Situated on the banks of the river Mayenne it has two high quality courses offering an excellent challenge to all golfers. The Jariel is a 9 hole course, and the Chabossiére is 18 holes (par 72 – 6790 yards). There is also a 25-bay driving range, putting green, shop and restaurant overlooking the course.

Situated in the heart of the Brittany countryside only an hour and a half drive from the port of St.Malo, three hours from Caen and three and a half hours from Cherbourg. The Lake is nestled alongside a very quiet country lane only a few minutes away from the nearest villages with the bustling, historic town of Vitre only 20 minutes away and Laval about 30 minutes. Vitre boasts a good sized Tackle Shop whilst the nearest supermarket is in Argentre-du-Plessis, a mere five minute drive away.

This little town on the Breton marches possesses unsuspected treasures. If you can only spare a few hours, head for the castle, the focal point of the medieval town. This majestic symbol of Vitré’s might is a masterpiece of medieval military architecture.

An imposing romanesque doorway in the inner courtyard is all that remains of the first castle, built in the 11th and 12th centuries on a rocky spur overlooking the Villaine valley.
After visiting the castle, go for a stroll about the town, where many of the 15th and 16th century streets are still almost intact. Multicoloured half-timbered houses abound, their upper storeys jutting out over the street, so as to provide a maximum amount of living space whilst occupying a minimum of land in the town where space was so limited.
Bayeux Tapestry

Also within easy reach (less than 2 hours) is the famous Monastery in the bay at Mont St. Michael - well worth a visit. The Aquarium at St Malo (an hour and a half). The beautiful beaches of the Loire Atlantique (around an hour and a half). The Loire Valley and Angers (around an hour). And if you fancy a bit further (around 2 hours)then there are the famous D-Day landing sites of Omaha Beach and Utah Beach with the American Cemetery and at Bayeaux there's the famous Tapestry depicting the Norman Conquest and also the British D-Day landing Cemetry.
